Mr. B and I got a lot accomplished this weekend. We picked out our granite (Titanium), kitchen floor tiles, half bath floor tiles and found a decorative border tile we like for the full bath. It feels so good to finally have those decisions made. There has also been tons of progress in the house. The windows came and are almost all installed and the kitchen, bathrooms and closets are all sheet rocked. I have walls again! The electrical is done, the plumbing is done and the heating is converted from oil to gas. I'm finally beginning to see the light at the end of the (very, very long) tunnel. Below are some pics of the granite.

Let there be CLOSETS!
As I've stated in previous posts, one of my major gripes about the house was the serious lack of closets. There wasn't 1 closet on the whole first floor! Mr. B PROMISED me that he would find a space to build a coat closet. Yesterday my dreams became a reality and not 1 but 2 closets were framed out. It's so exciting. Also, regarding my last post we decided to keep the bathroom the original size. With the right sized pieces we were really able to open up the bathroom. More on that to follow in a future post. Don't mind the pictures. For some reason I can't rotate them! Basically there are 2 4' closets that essentially create mudroom. More pics to follow this week.
The drawing below is what our front porch is being converted into. Instead of a tv room we are making that room an office.

Give a Little, Take a Little
The amount of decisions we have had to make throughout this renovation are endless. (And we've just begun)
The newest conundrum- Do we bump the bathroom wall out 1ft into the smallest room? That would also mean getting rid of 1 of the windows in the smaller room. That's fine because there are 3 windows in there now. Right now the bathroom is 6' x 7'. If we bump it out a foot it would make it 7' x 7' and allow us to have a larger vanity. What to do, what to do. What's more important? My one and only full bathroom being a little bigger or my 3rd bedroom being a decent size?

And so it begins...
The last couple of weeks since closing have been CRAZY to say the least. We gutted the kitchen and bathroom, front wall, raked over 50 contractor bags of leaves, sawed trees down and put gutters up. There have definitely been some hang ups along the way like 4 inches of concrete poured on the bathroom floor encasing the pipes that we had to chisel away or the fact that we need a permit to convert the boiler from oil to gas. It is an amazing feeling knowing so much is getting done. I would like to give a special thanks to Frank's dad and my brother Kyle. They worked tirelessly, even when me and Frank had to go back to work. My brother is a work horse and "Big Frank" as he calls him really took him under his wing and taught him a few things. It has been a ton of fun.

Finally!
We are set to close THIS Friday! Finally!! I am so excited. This has been a very, very stressful last couple of months. Now that I know we are actually closing I need to get a list together of what needs to be ordered right away. The cabinets and bathroom vanity have such long lead times!!

Time Flies
Time flies. Five months ago I married my best friend; it feels like it was yesterday. Our wedding was really something special. I know I know everyone says that about their own wedding but it REALLY WAS! We had a beautiful day filled with our friends, family and so much love. It just felt as though every person was bursting with love that day and so happy for us. We worked hard saving and planning for that wedding and it really was our first big accomplishment as a couple. I have so many favorite moments from that night, here are 5.
The way Mr. B looked at me during our ceremony. I swear I looked into his eyes and saw a movie of our whole lives together being played. |
Primo in a tux by my side the whole morning while I was getting ready. |
Cake cutting and our take topper. We didn’t smash cake into each other’s faces- I hate that! It was still a lot of fun and our cake topper was so cute, everyone loved it. |
Dancing our asses off. We really had so much fun.
Can we do it again??! :)

Waiting Game
The whole getting ready to close process is a pain! It drags on forever. We got the title report and it turns out the owner owes the Department of Sanitation over $8,000 in fines for their dirty, disgusting yard! (The ironic thing is we asked if we could clean it up before the closing because we wanted to do it before it got really cold. All we wanted in return was the fee for the container IF (and only if) for some reason we didn't close.) Now we have to wait around some more for them to try to pay these fines or get the reduced or something. I just want to be in the house already! It's bad enough we won't be living there right away. (Now I'm whining)
